Lendemain Demain

This is my archive, a sole landscape. Pictures and music.Lendemain Demain is influenced by a short story written by Jorge Luis Borges, “The Immortal”. It is a journey of a Roman soldier in Diocletianus Era, Marcus Flaminius Rufus, who seeks the City of the Immortals and the river nearby, which grants immortality to those who drink from it. During a long and tormenting trail in African deserts, Marcus Flaminius Rufus ends up captured in a cave, inhibited by Troglodytes. Demented by hunger and thirst, Marcus Flaminius Rufus escapes and finds a stream and quenches his needs. Then he realizes that The City of Immortals was standing in front of him.

The city was formed by labyrinths and unusable, twisted structures. While wandering in the labyrinths, Marcus Flaminius Rufus recognises that the city was abandoned centuries ago and he leaves the City of Immortals. At the exit gate, he finds out that the Troglodytes are the immortals, and after earning their immortality, they destroyed the original city and replaced it with labyrinths. The stream that Marcus Laminius Rufus drank from was the river of immortality, he was no longer a mortal being. There is no significance of time, space and motion for the immortals, there is no longer a need for a city.

Within Lendemain Demain, I aimed to build up an abandoned City of Immortals of mine. The core elements of the photographs and the music are the autogenous structures, already-fictionalized structures which are exposed to the effects of time, disintegrated details of a whole structure and unreachable sublime, sovereign structures. Lendemain Demain focuses on the feeling of hollowness once a place has been abandoned, and the environment that accompanies this feeling.

I attempted to build a city with my photographs and the music I’ve composed; places deserted by their inhabitants, landscapes and objects that have lost their purpose.

A sole landscape, waiting for its new visitors.
